Local Gutter Solutionists

Gutter work for Richmond’s 1920s to 1950s homes, from the Annex flats to the hillside streets

Richmond’s housing is some of the oldest in our territory. The Annex, the North and East and the blocks off Macdonald Avenue are lined with 1920s to 1950s bungalows and wartime homes, with low-pitch composition roofs, shallow wood fascia and, on many of them, the original sectional steel gutter patched more than once. Point Richmond and the hills toward Wildcat Canyon and East Richmond Heights add steep lots, taller rooflines and coast live oak, Monterey pine and eucalyptus overhead. Fog and salt air off San Pablo Bay keep everything damp for months and corrode galvanized steel from the inside, which is why so many Richmond gutters rust through at the seams long before they wear out anywhere else.

We form seamless aluminum, copper and bonderized steel gutter on site and cut it to your roofline, replace soft fascia before we hang anything, hand clean the runs and outlets, repair sagging hangers and leaking corners, and install BroGuard non-combustible metal micro-mesh under heavy canopy. Licensed and insured, locally owned in the East Bay, and backed by a franchise system founded in 1999 with more than 25 years of gutter work behind it.

Why the Brothers

Why Richmond Homeowners Call the Brothers

01Older homes are our normal

A 1926 Annex bungalow with shallow fascia and a 1948 wartime cottage need careful measurement and often fascia work first. We do both regularly.

02Materials that stand up to bay air

Aluminum does not rust. Copper lasts fifty years and suits Point Richmond’s older architecture. We will tell you which one makes sense for your house.

03Hillside water routed properly

On the steep streets a downspout that dumps at the corner puts water on the slope or the neighbor. We route it to a drain or the street.

04Solutionists, not salespeople

A free quote, a straight answer on repair versus replacement, and no pressure. Licensed, insured and locally owned, with every review published.

Richmond Gutter Questions, Answered

My Richmond bungalow has the original steel gutters. Can they be repaired or do they need replacing?

If the rust is at one seam or one end cap, a repair can buy time. If you can see rust bloom along the bottom of the run or the water stains the fascia in several places, the steel is thinning from the inside and replacement with seamless aluminum is the honest answer. We will walk it with you and show you which it is.

Why do gutters rust so fast in Richmond?

Salt air off San Pablo Bay and months of fog. Galvanized steel gutter depends on its zinc coating, and once salt and standing moisture get through at a seam the steel underneath goes quickly. Aluminum does not rust, and copper only builds a patina, which is why we recommend both over steel anywhere close to the bay.

The fascia behind my gutters is soft. Do you handle that?

Yes, and it is common on 1920s to 1950s Richmond homes. Years of overflow soak the fascia board, and new gutter screwed into soft wood will pull loose within a season. We replace the damaged fascia, prime it, and then hang the new seamless run into solid wood so the system lasts.

How do you handle gutters on the steep lots in Point Richmond?

The gutter itself is the same. The difference is where the water goes. On a hillside lot a downspout that dumps at the corner sends water across the slope or into a neighbor’s yard, so we run it to an existing drain, a buried line or out to the curb. We also use tighter hanger spacing on the taller rooflines where wind loads are higher.

How often should I have gutters cleaned in Richmond?

Once a year on the flats, in late fall after the liquidambar and camphor drop. Twice a year if you are under oaks, pines or eucalyptus in the hills, because pine needles and eucalyptus bark keep coming through winter. If you would rather stay off the ladder for good, BroGuard micro-mesh handles most of it and the maintenance program handles the rest.
