Local Gutter Solutionists

Gutter work for El Sobrante’s hillside ranch homes under oak and eucalyptus

El Sobrante sits in the folds of the hills between Richmond and the San Pablo Reservoir, and most of it was built as single-story ranch homes in the 1950s through the 1970s on sloped and canyon lots along San Pablo Dam Road, Appian Way and Valley View. Long low rooflines, wide eaves, composition shingle and shallow fascia are the pattern, and many gutters are original. What sets El Sobrante apart is what grows over it. Coast live oak, valley oak, bay laurel and blue gum eucalyptus drop leaves, bark strips and seed caps year round, and eucalyptus packs into outlets until the run overflows. The hills catch more rain than the flats, and on a sloped lot every downspout has to send water somewhere safe.

We form seamless aluminum, copper and bonderized steel gutter on site and cut it to the roofline, replace soft fascia, hand clean rather than blowing debris across the roof, repair sagging hangers and leaking corners, and install BroGuard non-combustible metal micro-mesh where the canopy makes cleaning a losing battle. Licensed and insured, locally owned in the East Bay, and backed by a franchise system founded in 1999 with more than 25 years behind it.

Why the Brothers

Why El Sobrante Homeowners Call the Brothers

01We know eucalyptus

Bark and seed caps clog outlets in a way leaves do not. On heavy-canopy lots we size outlets larger and recommend micro-mesh that bark cannot get through.

02Long ranch rooflines measured properly

A sixty foot eave with one downspout at the end is the classic El Sobrante overflow. We add outlets and set the fall so it drains.

03Water routed off the slope

On a canyon lot the downspout cannot just dump at the corner. We run it to a drain or to daylight downhill, away from the foundation and the bank.

04Solutionists, not salespeople

A free quote and an honest answer on repair versus replacement, no pressure. Licensed, insured and locally owned, with every review published.

El Sobrante Gutter Questions, Answered

My El Sobrante house is under eucalyptus. Are gutter guards actually worth it here?

Under eucalyptus, more than almost anywhere. The problem is not just leaves, it is long bark strips and hard seed caps that wedge into outlets and do not break down. A fine metal micro-mesh like BroGuard keeps them out of the trough entirely. Cheaper screen guards let the small stuff through and mat over with bark, so we do not recommend them under this canopy.

The gutters on my 1960s ranch house sag in the middle. Is that a repair or a replacement?

It depends on what is sagging. If the gutter itself is sound and the spike hangers have pulled out of the fascia, re-hanging with hidden screw hangers into solid wood is a repair. If the run has bent, the seams leak, or the fascia is soft along most of its length, a new seamless run into new fascia is the honest answer. We will show you which.

Where should the downspouts drain on a hillside lot in El Sobrante?

Away from the house and off the slope, not at the corner. On the uphill side we run downspouts into a buried line that carries water around the house. On the downhill side we take it to daylight well below the pad or to an existing drain. Dumping it at the base of a bank is how hillside lots develop settling and erosion over time.

Does El Sobrante get more rain than Richmond or San Pablo?

Yes, the hills catch more than the flats along the bay, and the canyon lots near the reservoir and Kennedy Grove see the most. That is why we lean toward six inch gutter and larger downspouts on the bigger roof planes here, and why a fall cleaning before the first storm matters more than it does down on the flats.

How often do gutters need cleaning under oaks in El Sobrante?

Twice a year is realistic under live oak, and more if eucalyptus is overhead, because live oak drops in spring as well as fall and eucalyptus never really stops. Late fall before the storms is the essential visit. If you would rather not do it or pay for it twice a year, BroGuard micro-mesh brings it down to an occasional check.
