Gutters for the hillside pocket between Lafayette and Walnut Creek

Acalanes Ridge is an unincorporated pocket of about 1,285 people on less than half a square mile, tucked north of Highway 24 between Lafayette and Walnut Creek. The streets climb from Oakvale Road, Buena Vista Avenue and Camino Diablo up Springbrook Road and Hillcroft Way toward the ridge it is named for. Housing came in waves: a third of the homes went up in the 1940s, more followed in the 1950s and 1960s, and another third were built in the 1970s and 1980s. Every home here is a detached house, many with mature trees right over the roof.

Those trees are the main gutter story. Coast live oak, valley oak, blue oak, bay laurel and California buckeye cover the ridge, and some Springbrook lots sit under tall redwoods. Buckeyes drop their leaves in late summer, oaks follow in fall, and bays shed all year, so troughs here rarely stay clean for long. The Briones to Mt. Diablo Regional Trail crosses the neighborhood, and the open ridge above is grass and oak woodland. Lots on that edge are good candidates for our fire zone gutter check.
